Acupuncture:

Individual & Community

Individual Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a medicine that originated in China over 2,000 years ago. Acupuncture is used as an alternative medicine and a compliment to Western medicine.  Acupuncture is both a preventative modality as well as a tool to treat acute and chronic conditions.

Acupuncture can address issues such as side effects of cancer treatments, post-surgical and illness recovery, fatigue, stress, emotional issues, migraine and tension headaches, sinus issues, allergies, women’s health complaints, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and pain. Individual Acupuncture is provided in a private room.

Individual Acupuncture is offered by Karen Iglehart, RN, L. Ac., Certified EFT Practitioner

Community Acupuncture Clinic

Community Acupuncture is multiple people receiving treatment at the same time.  Historically, acupuncture was practiced in this manner in China and only began being practiced privately once it was introduced to the West.  The goal in providing a Community Acupuncture Clinic at Restoration Cottage is to remove barriers to high-quality acupuncture while making it more affordable and accessible to the community.

 What to Expect:

Because you are being treated alongside other people, you will be treated while seated or lying in a comfortable recliner.  You will remain fully clothed and needles will only be inserted in places that are easily accessed—your arms, hands, lower legs, feet, head and ears.

  • Please enter the Cottage quietly and silence all electronic devices. Limit talking except to the acupuncturist.

  • If you tend to run cold, please bring a small blanket with you.

  • Needles are inserted and you are invited to relax. When the needles are done, you will become more alert. Notify the acupuncturist and
needles will be removed. Generally needles are retained for 20-40 minutes.

  • If you are sick, or around someone that has been sick, please reschedule your appointment.

The Community Acupuncture Clinic is offered the first and third Wednesday of each month from 3-7pm.

Payment for treatment is on an honor system sliding fee of $30-50 per treatment. To keep sessions at the lowest possible price, only cash or check payments are accepted. On-line registration and scheduling is required and closes 8 hours prior to each clinic. Please contact Karen Iglehart at 443-721-7327 for questions or to schedule after the 24 hour window has closed. TREATMENT IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Karen Iglehart, RN, M. Ac., L. Ac.

Acupuncturist & Accredited Certified EFT Practitioner and Coach
Owner, Restoration Cottage LLC

Karen is a Registered Nurse, Licensed Acupuncturist and Accredited Certified EFT Practitioner. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland in 1993 followed by a Masters of Acupuncture from Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly TAI Sophia) in 2003. She holds certification through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and became an Accredited Certified EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Practitioner in 2020.

During my own health struggles, I never found a complete answer to my questions through traditional Western medicine. My health returned when I stopped trying to ignore and shut down my body’s messages and instead started to listen to them. Things only made sense once I started combining Western and Eastern medical perspectives along with my faith. By combining these perspectives, I provide intentional, trauma-informed wellness care for those navigating through a health or relationship-based crisis for which traditional treatments have not provided relief. Wellness treatments include acupuncture, EFT/ taping & faith-based wellness coaching.

Restoration Cottage LLC opened in March 2023 at 519 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD 21787. Although the basis of the center is Christian, all faiths and beliefs are welcome.

Maureen Nelis, RRT, MAC, M. Ac., L. Ac.

Acupuncturist & Qi Gong Practitioner

Maureen is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT-retired), Licensed Acupuncturist and a Qi Gong Practitioner. She obtained her Associates Degree in Science from Durham Technical Institute followed by a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from East Tennessee State University. Maureen has a Masters in Counseling from Appalachian State University and a Masters of Acupuncture from Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly TAI Sophia) in 2003. She holds certification through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and became a Qi Gong Practitioner in 2022.

Maureen found acupuncture during her own health and personal struggles and felt it brought her back to life. During Maureen’s 35 years as a Respiratory Therapist she noticed patients were not getting better and kept coming back through the revolving door of the Emergency Department. Maureen saw that Western medicine was not getting long term results. She was inspired to find alternate ways to secure better health and stability for not only her patients but for herself. Maureen is passionate about clients being the healthiest they can be in body, mind and spirit. She creates a safe space for the client to be inspired to take “the next best step” so they can shift their view of what is happening in their life. Maureen is committed to clients have the fullest life possible and be in the driver seat of their lives instead of the passenger.

Maureen sees clients for acupuncture and Qi Gong in her office in Emmitsburg, MD, at The Center for Mind Body Therapies in Frederick, MD and for Community Acupuncture at Restoration Cottage in Taneytown, MD.
